Located just north of Downtown St. Paul, Frogtown was named for the fact that the neighborhood developed over filled in swamps and marshes. Once featuring modest homes for blue-collar workers in the late 1800s, most homes were replaced for modern counterparts, although some classic Victorian structures can still be found.

Frogtown, St. Paul’s District 7, is also known as Thomas-Dale. The community is bordered by University Avenue and the METRO Green Line to the south, Burlington Northern railroad tracks to the north, Lexington Parkway to the west and Rice Street on the east. Frogtown is one of the more ethnically diverse communities of St. Paul, with many family-owned businesses along University Avenue, including neighborhood-favorites Shuang Hur Supermarket, Dragon Star Oriental Foods and Silhouette Bakery.
